Born in Linz, Austria.

1956–59
Attends the School of Arts and Crafts in Linz.

1960–1964
Higher Federal Teaching and Research Institute of the Textile Industry in Vienna. After obtaining her diploma in design, VALIE EXPORT begins working in the film industry and is later a co-founder of the Austria Filmmakers Cooperative.

1967
Adopts the name VALIE EXPORT as an artistic concept and logo, which is always to be written in capital letters.

from 1968
Exhibitions in Austria and abroad. Teaches at various international institutions, including the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA, the San Francisco Art Institute and the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). Professor of Multimedia and Performance at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne.

2005
VALIE EXPORT’s production is purchased by the City of Linz. Establishment of the VALIE EXPORT Archive and the VALIE EXPORT Center, an international research institution for media and performance art.

Lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
